Editorial Policy

Purpose of this site

MoneyMentorDesk.com publishes plain-English guides on insurance, auto finance, personal loans, and personal finance for readers in the US and UK. Our goal is to help you understand a financial product – how it works, what it costs, and what to compare – before you apply for it or use it.

How we choose topics

We write about the practical questions people have when researching a financial product or decision, and we look for topics where we can add real depth – worked examples, comparison tables, and details drawn from a product’s own official terms.

Our use of primary and authoritative sources

Our editorial standard is to base claims on official sources where they exist: government and regulatory publications (such as the CFPB and NAIC in the US, and the FCA, GOV.UK, and the Financial Ombudsman Service in the UK), and the official disclosures, terms, and rate pages published directly by the financial companies or products we write about. Where practical, we link directly to primary or authoritative sources at the point where a claim is made.

Fact-checking

Our editorial standard is to check factual claims – rates, fees, terms, eligibility rules – against current official sources when we write or update an article. Where a rate or figure is dated (for example, a disclosure effective as of a specific date), we aim to note that date so readers know when it was last confirmed.

Use of AI tools

AI tools may be used to assist with drafting, research organisation, or editing. They do not replace the use of primary or authoritative sources, and important factual claims are intended to be checked against appropriate sources when content is created or updated.

This is educational information, not professional advice

Everything on MoneyMentorDesk.com is for general education only. It is not financial, legal, or professional advice, and it is not a recommendation to buy, apply for, or avoid any specific product. Terms, rates, and eligibility vary by provider, by applicant, and over time. Always confirm current terms directly with the provider, and speak with a qualified, licensed professional before making a financial decision. See our full Disclaimer.

Corrections and updates

Financial products, rates, and terms change over time. When we become aware that a figure, term, or fact in an article is out of date or incorrect, we update the article and show a visible “Updated” date. When updating content, our aim is to correct facts without changing the article’s overall meaning.

Editorial independence

MoneyMentorDesk.com is not paid for, sponsored, or directed by any financial institution, lender, insurer, or third party, unless explicitly disclosed. If a page ever contains affiliate links or sponsored content, that will be clearly disclosed on the page itself, in line with FTC guidance (US) and ASA/CAP rules (UK). See our full Disclaimer for the complete policy.

Use of examples and calculations

Where it helps make a number concrete, we use worked dollar/pound examples, comparison tables, and calculators. These are illustrations based on the rates and terms in force at the time of writing – they are not quotes, and your actual costs will depend on your own application and the provider’s decision.

How we cite sources

Where relevant, sources are linked directly in the body of the article, at or near the claim they support. Some articles also include a dedicated “Sources” list at the end.
