We write about the practical questions people have when researching a financial product or decision, and we look for topics where we can add real depth – worked examples, comparison tables, and details drawn from a product’s own official terms.
Our use of primary and authoritative sources
Our editorial standard is to base claims on official sources where they exist: government and regulatory publications (such as the CFPB, the NAIC, state insurance departments and state DMVs in the US, and legislation.gov.uk, the FCA and GOV.UK in the UK), and the official disclosures, terms, and rate pages published directly by the financial companies or products we write about. Where practical, we link directly to primary or authoritative sources at the point where a claim is made.
Fact-checking
Our editorial standard is to check factual claims – rates, fees, terms, eligibility rules – against current official sources when we write or update an article. Where a rate or figure is dated (for example, a disclosure effective as of a specific date), we aim to note that date so readers know when it was last confirmed.
Use of AI tools
AI tools are used to help draft articles and organise research. They do not replace sources: every factual claim is checked against the primary or authoritative source it cites, figures in worked examples are recalculated independently, and where a source cannot be accessed the claim is left out rather than guessed.
